6. RENEWING OF THE MIND

6. RENEWING OF THE MIND

Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will” (NIVUK).

How do we renew our minds? How can we resist being conformed to the world’s way of thinking? The answer is to read God’s Word every day. The answer is to pray every day. When you do this your mind will be filled with His Word and the Word will drop into your heart. When situations arise, and the world wants your attention, then the Word inside you will rise up. From your spirit you will say, “This is not Scriptural. Don’t think on that, don’t look at those things! Because the Bible says don’t do it!”

If I don’t have the Word in my mind I will be influenced by the newspapers; I will be influenced by the internet. I have to guard my mind. When our mind is filled with the Word because of what God is saying, we will know “the good, acceptable and perfect will of God” (KJV).

It is a progressive process of knowing the will of God and renewing the mind. The Bible says good, acceptable and perfect. This reveals three levels of renewal of the mind, each progressively closer to God’s mind and will. This can only be achieved by spending time in God’s Word.

By renewing our mind we can experience more of heaven on earth. Jesus said in John 10:10, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (KJV). Our abundant life can start here on earth. We don’t have to wait to go to heaven. Our kingdom starts here but we have the responsibility to protect it. We must crucify our bodies every day, renew our minds every day, pray every day, and read the Bible every day. Do not be entangled with this world (2 Timothy 2:4). Then see what happens with your life. You will have heaven on earth here.
